The Cornell Lab of Ornithology has an excellent website with an extremely thorough breakdown of binoculars from just about any angle you can think of. They advise you how to choose a set based on your needs, have amazingly extensive listings of types, manufacturing info, etc and a comprehensive list that covers just about anything you need to know.
