First, look at the nutrition facts panel on foods you buy. The protein content is on the label. If you go to a restaurant, they may have nutrition facts available on menus, pamphlets or their website. For other reference, the USDA National Nutrient Database if available online and has a lot of information.

There are several books at your local Barnes & Noble and Borders that are specific to measuring protein content in various foods and meals. There are also hundreds of websites that can help you. The United State Department of Agriculture also offers a list of protein content with standard portion sizes.

In the United States, food products must be have a nutritional information label on them. The label will have protein information in grams for a certain serving size.
