There are over 2,000 species of Geckos, all found in a variety of climates. One of the more common species of Gecko that are kept as pets is the Leopard Gecko. These Geckos are generally found in hot deserts. They like sand and a great deal of light during the day, but need a source of water nearby, as well.

Gecko's probably originated in in Southeast Asia but have distributed widely since. They can be found in most parts of the world including isolated islands. They are found in the warmer parts of every continent in grasslands, rain forests and even deserts.
