The bagel was invested in the 1860's in Eastern Europe. The bagel was brought over by Eastern European Jews into New York. Bagels are doughnut shape breads that are boiled and then are baked. Bagels go good with cream cheese or peanut butter.

Bagels come from 17th century Austria. The King of Poland at the time was fond of riding and a local baker wanted to honor him for his protection against the invading Turks. This baker made a roll in the shape of a riding stirrup which sounded like 'bagel' in German.

The bagel was invented around the end of the 16th century. Many Jewish families would make bagels at the conclusion of the Sabbath, as they were not allowed to cook on the Sabbath, and bagels were easy to make.
