Question by  VB (361)

When should you start a birth control pack, before your period starts, the first day or into your cycle?

I am confused about when to start a new rx for birth control.

Follow your doctor's instructions. The pharmacist can clarify the instructions for you as well. Do not consult anonymous lay persons for information about your health. Go to the best source of info: your physician and your pharmacist.

I would start on the Sunday after your period or the Sunday during your period. Being a Sunday starter makes it so you don't get your period on the weekend!

When starting a new form of birth control always follow your doctor's directions. If you are unsure, a good general rule is to start the first Sunday after your period begins. If you are beginning a new form of birth control, be sure to use a backup method for the first two weeks.

You can start any day you want to, though you have to make sure to label your pills correctly so that you know the day of the week you start. Though it is suggested you start on the first Sunday during your period in some locations.

They usually have you start it the first day after your period. If you are not 100 percent sure on how your medication should be takin contact a pharmacist or your local doctor.

Typically, it's recommended that you begin taking the first pill of your first birth control pack on the first Sunday after you start your period, even if you are still menstruating. This is for maximum efficiency. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist if still confused.
