You should start taking them right away both you and your baby need those nutrients. Be sure to get a prenatal vitamin with plenty of folic acid.

You should start taking prenatal vitamins immediately. It can take a few months for vitamins and minerals to build up in the body. Ideally, a woman should start taking prenatal vitamins 3 months prior to becoming pregnant. If you are already pregnant, it's important to start taking the vitamins right away.

You should consult your OB first before taking vitamins. She knows what to give you and when. It's better to be at the safe side before taking anything.

Now. I even started taking them when I was trying to get pregnant. But it is not too late, just start now. My OB said that over-the-counter prentatals are just as effective as prescription ones.

Ideally you should be taking prenatal vitamins before conception. Otherwise, you need to start taking them as soon as you find out you are pregnant. Make sure your prenatal contains folic acid, otherwise take an extra folic acid supplement along with the prenatal. Congratulations and good luck with the pregnancy!

Talk to your doctor about any special needs you may have, but go ahead and start taking a prenatal vitamin now. The baby is already needing those materials to grow.
