When is it appropriate to wear a brown tux?

I think you can wear one anytime but my wife says no.

The brown tuxedo's time passed quickly. Any situation where a tuxedo is appropriate more or less demands a black tuxedo, though sometimes grey is acceptable as well. Wearing white MAY work for some people, but anything other than those is pushing it. Unless a wedding demands it (which is an outdated practice), the brown tuxedo is no longer in style.

A brown tuxedo can be worn to any event at which you might wear a suit and tie. If the dress code is black tie, you should be aware that a brown tuxedo would stand out and be making a statement - not the desired effect for most formal situations.

It depends on what shade of brown the tux is. At night a dark brown is o. k. During the day a light brown is acceptable.

It is not technically wrong to wear a brown tux, but it is unusual. A black tux would be more appropriate for a wedding or a funeral. Save the brown tux for lesser events like anniversay parties.
