When I check my e-mail, why is there a delay?

The delay could be from the options you chose while setting up your email account. Most email installation programs have different options to choose in the set up process to maximize efficiency and speed. A delay also occurs when infomation travels from the email account sending the email, through the email providers server, to the email account recieving the email.

Due to two main reasons, delaying in the e-mail happens. They are, due to processor and main memory used in the system and internet connection used.

email has to be routed through servers etc. There are also spam programs that filter out spam. Finally there is a virus check done by virus software. All of this takes time to complete.
