I had my very first ultrasound about a week after the doctor told me I was pregnant, and then had my second one at around 16 weeks to determine the baby's sex.

When someone is believed to be pregnant and has a positive pregnancy test, many doctors will perform an ultrasound to determine how far along the pregnancy is. This is standard. Doctors may do an ultrasound at 15 to 20 weeks to determine gender and baby's positioning as well as to look for defects.

The first ultrasound for me was done at the age of twenty seven. I was expecting my first baby. It was done during the first trimester of pregnancy at the maternity hospital after the appointment with the gynecologist. I was nervous but all worries lost after I saw my little precious one.

It all depends on the doctors, but I have heard that you get your first ultrasound at week 12. This is done first to hear the heartbeat and also to check to see if there are any abnormalities.
