When did Smuckers start making jam?

The Smucker's company was founded by Jerome Monroe Smucker in 1897 but started off selling apple butter. It wasn't until 1923 that the Smucker's company began crafting preserves and jellies. In May 2008 they bought the food division of Knott's Berry Farm from ConAgra Foods, but not the theme park.

Smuckers has been making jam for over 100 years and while they bought a company that had an amusement park they did not purchase the amusement park.

i think that would be back in the 1800's. Maybe 1812 if I am not mistaken. It is really good.
