There are several reasons that might cause a child to regress with respect to potty training. Change of some kind is typically a cause and can take different forms including a divorce of the parents, the additon of a new sybling, a move to a new environment, or some sort of trauma experienced by the child.

If a child was well potty trained and started to regree it's usually it's because of stress or a change in their routine. Children who are sexually abused tend to start having accidents of that nature. Either way, it's always a good idea to bring them to their pediatrician if this happens to be sure it's nothing serious.

That is part of the process. They get it then they decide against it. I have never met a kid that did it 100% of the time during the first few times. I would remind them to use the potty and maybe continue to reward him for using the potty.

A child who is harassed and not accepted when it fails to measure up will always panic when in need to use the potty.
