The Age of Englightenment produced many different ideas and philosophies but what tied them together was a general attitude of critical thought and questioning of tradition. The most important ideas that came out of Enlightenment were John Locke's exploration of the relationship between the individual and the state and Thomas Hobbes' ideas that human beings are selfish.
