The most famous is his teaching of ideal forms and things. Things that we see like chairs, beds, or horses are merely reflections of the higher ideal form(s), which are the true reality. What we see are like shadows on the wall of a cave, but the ideal forms are like the world outside the cave, which we don't understand.

It's hard to narrow all of Plato's theories into just the basics. Plato is revered as the father of metaphysical philosophy; which discusses the scientific proof of reality. He developed the theory of forms; where the world we know is a shadow of the actual world.
