What was 19th Century clothing like?

In the 1800s, women wore dresses with the wiring underneath. Pantaloons were popular items back then. Females wore hats on a regular basis, and men wore hats such as top hats. Bonnets which tie around the neck were worn by females. Materials could be readily bought and a lot of clothes were homemade.

Men's clothing was described as stiff and formal. Women's clothing was fussy and overdone. This century was the beginning of machine made clothing.
