Egypt has a semi-presidential republic: the president and prime minister of Egypt share the day-to-day activities of the state and the people of Egypt also have a role in government.

Technically Egypt claims to have a democracy with an elected president. But that president has been in power for more than 27 years. Most political analysts consider Egypt close to being a dictatorship with their president wielding considerable power. Egypt does not have the checks and balances of judicial branch and legislative branch like the United States.
