Supplements are helpful in building strength and mass, but they don't do all of the work for you. Protein supplements are a good idea if you're unable to achieve high protein diet from whole foods.

Creatine is an excellent supplement, which is natural to the body, and isn't harmful in the least. Other supplements which are good for weight-lifting are fish oils and protein shakes.
