If you are going to college and you will be using this money for that purpose tell the people you are thanking that's what you are going to do with it. Say something like, "Thank-You for the gift of money I will be using it in the fall when I go to college. "

It would be appropriate to thank them for thinking of you and celebrating the culmination of all your hard work. If you have an idea of how you will spend the money (on something for a new career, your first apartment, etc. ) you could indicate that in the note.

Sincerely thank the person that sent you the money. Mention what you plan to do with the money; savings or a special purchase.
