You should go check what kinds of attractions and accomodations they have for young children there at Walt Disney World. Also, do your research. Kids can get discounts at a lot of places, so check it out beforehand.

Don't try to do everything! Take it at their pace, and let them enjoy the parks without forcing them to a schedule or plan. Taking a break in the afternoon for a nap / swim at the hotel is a great way to let them not get too tired.

A trip to Disney World is a very exciting time. A three year old will not be able to enjoy the full array of offerings at Disney World, however. They will be too short to ride the rides and all the people and characters can be scary to small children.

Be aware that the lines can be long and make sure you plan plenty of rests. Many children that young get frightened when they see the characters up close. Get a list of the rides/attractions that are suitable for a 3-year old and focus on those first.

It is best age for first Disney visit. But there will be lot of things you won't be able to do, because of childs height. Don't forget about nap. If your child take a favorite toy with make sure it won't get lost.

The biggest thing is that most people take young children because they are very excited about all the rides. Many people see all the rides on TV and think that their children will love them. You need to keep in mind that all the rides have a height requirement. A 3year old will only have a select few rides.
