The risk of baby having a birth defect increases with age, especially once age 35 is reached. Stillbirth is more common in woman over age 35. Women at age 40 have about double the risk of miscarriage than those in their 20's. A C-Section is slightly more commonplace for women having their first child after age 35.

Woman who are "older" during pregnancy (doctors define this at 35 years old or older) can face an increased risk of Downs syndrome or other trisomies. Your doctor will probably recommend you take a first trimester screening (not invasive) and follow you more closely.

There are a few risk factors for mothers over the age of 35. The main one that doctors look for is a chance of having a downs syndrome baby. Your doctor will do a test for this early. Other than that, just eat healthy and get moderate exercise.

Congratulations! Age does not influence your experience of pregnancy so just enjoy it. Eat properly , avoid alcohol , take exercise and rest when you feel like it.

Technically, any woman over 35 is considered of "advanced maternal age" but that doesn't automatically mean that there will be problems. Your doctor may recommend extra testing for genetic disorders.
