What should I know about driving in the snow?

I\'ve never had to do it before, but I will this weekend!

The most important thing is you need to drive much slower than you would on clean pavement. Sometimes i see inexperienced drivers driving normal speeds in snowy or icy conditions, and more than a few times, I have seen them spun out on the side of the road. Be careful!

Driving in the snow is much like driving in sand. You will want to take it slow as you get started, do not follow anyone too close,do not ride your break. Keep in mind that if you are in an area that gets snow they will put salt on the roads to keep them from getting slick and freezing.

The most important thing to remember is that your lack of traction changes everything. Braking needs to be slow and give yourself more time. Don't make any sudden changes in direction or speed, cause you will lose traction and your risk of an accident increases. And watch others. They are more of a threat than usual.

if you dont have snow tires on your car, you should probably take snow chains... they give your wheels much more traction and can help prevent skidding.
