If your toe is red and swollen, you can use hydrogen peroxide to reduce the risk of infection. Once infected, you should seek medical attention to keep it from spreading.

Puncture the wound by the use of a clean needle to let out all the pus. Apply an antiseptic like betadine to keep the wound from germs and to make it heal faster. When your wound is healed, do not depend on others (like manicurist) to clean and trim it for you. I do my nails twice a week.

To help draw out the infection is to do alternate hot and cold foot soaks using epsom salts in the hot water. This can be done several times a time depending upon severity of the infection. Youe should wear loose shoes or go barefoot as much as possible while the toenail is healing.

The infection can be drawn out by pouring a cap full of peroxide over the infected area twice daily. Try not to wear tight shoes while it heals.
