What should I know about depression and bed rest?

Symptoms of depression can include sadness, lack of interest, crying, staying in bed all the time, over sleeping, not sleeping, overeating, not eating, irritability,lack of concentration, loss of libido, headaches, generalized fatigue, and missing work. There can many more symptoms for they vary from person to person. Bedrest is not good for those depressed. Talk to a health-care provider.

If you have depression it is always better to seek the opinion of a health professional. Generally speaking it isn't a good idea to spend too much time in bed. If you do then it is likely that your depression will get worse.

It is probable that women who are forced to be on bed rest during pregnancy have an increased chance of being depressed due to the confines of bed rest.

Depression can be made worse by too much bed rest because it can mimic excess tiredness. Pushing oneself initially to get out of bed and get active will help start the day. Being active can help with sleep at night and this will aid in dpression resolution.
