What should I know about converting a cake recipe to cupcakes?

When a cake is being cooked it takes time for the heat to reach the center and turn it into a delicious dessert, cupcakes are inherently smaller and require less time for cooking, so don't change the ingredients, just the cook time. Take 5 minutes off the cake's normal cook time and check every minute until done using a toothpick.

The most important thing to remember about converting a cake recipe to cupcakes is time. Decrease the baking time by a third. Usually, cupcakes will be done within 15 minutes. However, if the recipe is a dense cake, i. e. a fruit batter, it may require additional time.

Make the recipe as you would for a normal cake. Fill the cupcake liners two-thirds full, and bake the cupcakes at about 350F, and for about half the time.
