Race horse trainers should be familiar with the physiology, habits and temperament of horses. They make sure horses are in prime condition using proper training methods, preventing strain or injury.

If he's an honest trainer, he will give you excellent advice as to how hard your horse should be trained, and how often he should be raced.

The trainer is responsible in getting the horse ready for races and the planning of what races he feels the horse is prepared for. The trainer is the person who initiates the discipline and many trainers specialize in certain fields outside of the racing. This can include training very young horses or even working with certain breeds.

Trainers main job is to condition your horse to safely compete at a given distance. He/ she will also provide proper nutritional management, a clean environment, and continuous monitoring of the health of the horse and his soundness.

A race horse trainer takes care of the needs of the horse. They feed, groom and exercise the horses. They will also prepare the horses to race if that is what the client is looking for. Horse trainers often solve a horses bad habits such as kicking or shying away from grooming.

Have lots of patience working with a race horse. Race horses are high strung and daily working going in and out of the gate and gallops help the horse learn racing.
