Catch them in their lie. Question them further about it, be very upfront about how you catch them. Do not sneak behind their back and call their friends.

There are many forms of punishment you can use. Start with taking the door to their bedroom off the hinges and not allowing them any privileges most teenagers have, i. e. iPod, Cell phone, etc. It is very important that your teen is aware that you are the authority figure in his life.

This is a fairly normal part of being a teenager. Thus, you should not panic or assume that your teen will always be dishonest. That being said, you do need to address the behavior. When you catch him in a lie, confront him about it in a calm, non-threatening way, and ensure that lies carry consequences.
