If the sore is red and swollen, try using some anti-septic oil or cream first. If it doesn't improve, try the vet.

In my experience, a sore under the tail usually comes from another hamster that has bit him. Usually, the bite came from a female who is pregnant or has babies. If the sore resembles a hernia, poking out, your hamster will not live for very long.

If your hamster has a sore under its tail you should keep an eye on i for a couple days. If it doesn't go away bring it to the vet.

If your hamster has a sore underneath its tail, you should bring your hamster to an exotic vet. immediately. In the mean time, clean his/her cage clean, and gently wipe the wound with a warm, damp cloth.

I would suggest a visit to the vet to rule out "wet tail", a bacterial illness that can be life -threatening. Keep notes on how your hamster is behaving to report to the vet; eating, drinking normally? any diarrhea? behaving as usual? was your little friend under any stress recently?

You can treat the area with a cold compress a few times each day until healed. If the area does not improve, seek a veternarian.
