Foot and mouth disease is a common illness that affects animals such as equines and bovines (horses and dogs). Humans are immune to foot and mouth disease, it as a sub-catagory of our immune systems called species immunity. Some diseases are capable of being passed from animals to man but not all, including foot and mouth (hoof and mouth).

According to the Center for Disease control there is no real evidence of hand foot and mouth diseased being passed to an unborn baby unless the mother has the disease during the time of delivery. Even then, the baby would usually get a very mild form of the disease. To be safe, it's always best to talk to your doctor.

You should call your doctors office and alert them of your exposure to the disease. You can usually talk to his nurse when you call the office. She will tell you if you need to come in or if you need to be tested. Try not to expose yourself any further to the disease.

Anytime you do anything that can be potentially harmful to your baby get to your doctor right away so they can give medication or advise you what to do
