Often the reasoning behind why reptiles refuse food is due to their temperature. Reptiles prefer warm,in a tortoise's case, dry weather. If they are not kept at the proper temperature they can not properly digest food, therefore dwindling their appetite.

My Russian tortiose will stop eating so we give her a luke warm bath once a day for a week. This always does the trick and it cleans out any poop build up and hydrates! Can't hurt to call the vet too!

Our Russian tortoise likes to eat cabbage, lettuce leaves, any red berries, peaches, and apricots. She would never eat meat or even special tortoise pellets with vitamins - and she seems to be doing very well - try the lettuce! In winter she doesn't eat - just sleeps.

The first step is to make sure that the tortoise's environment is clean. If the tank is clean, it is a better environment to eat and be healthy in.

Get a few pieces of Romain lettuce and a spoon. Grind the lettuce into a paste. Get him to a veterinarian right away, in case he's having major issues.
