What should I do about my dog who has been diagnosed with spleen cancer?

Your dog can live without a spleen but your dog might not be able to produce white blood cells since the spleen is needed to produce them. Try to find out if it is white pulp or red pulp that caused the cancer. And do surgery if you can afford .

Can it be removed? Cancer treatment in dogs is often very successful and if you have the money you should try it. Is the dog of an advanced age? In ok health? These questions might help you decide what to do. It's a tough road to treat this. I am sorry.

Typically, a veterinarian would remove the spleen. If not removed it could rupture and cause internal bleeding, which could lead to death. It can be painful for the dog. Another issue is often the cancer spreads to other areas. Chemotherapy is also an option for dogs with cancer. Life span depends on the seriousness of the cancer.

His prognosis depends on a lot of different factors. One is how advanced the cancer is. If it isn't very advanced there is a lot more hope of success in treatment. Another huge factor is the age of your dog. If he is an older dog it might not be worth it to put him through treatment.

I am sorry to hear of your ill news. I had a dog that had cancer himself. I know for a fact that when a dog has cancer, it doesn't feel well. My dog used to look forward to getting his treatments because then he felt better. But the problem is that it is costly to get the treatments.

The answers to all those questions depend on the dog and how much you want to put him through. The biggest factor of if you should put him through treatment is his age and prognosis. If he's young it may be worth it to try and treat him, but if he's old you may just want to make him comfortable.
