You can treat the bites with a topical ointment if you want but you may want to talk to your vet about the dog being bitten so much. They may have something you can give the dog that will deter the bugs from bothering the dog and that will stop alot of the irritation.

It is more important to find the source of these bugs and try to eliminate them. If he is over scratching, in pain or inflamed take him to the vet.

Bug bites can be dangerous for dogs as mosquitos can bite the dog and give it heartworm. Topical sprays can be purchased that prevent bugs from biting. Flea and tick remedies can be given orally or topically.

If this is a frequent problem ,I would call your vet and get a professional opinion from him. He can tell you the best way to treat the bites.

You can treat your dogs with a once a month flea and tick treatment to prevent a lot of the future bites. You can also try to keep them indoors when the bugs are really bad.

You can get a spray made for dogs that contains hydro-cortisone. It helps my dog when he has itches.
