What makes a movie a "tearjerker"?

I don't cry in movies.

A tear jerker is a movie that tugs at your heart strings. It usually involves a story where the main character has to overcome a hardship or disease. You don't have to necessarily cry if the movie touches you with its message or because it is really sad you could still call it a tear jerker.

I think that a movie can be classified as a "tearjerker" when it causes some kind of emotion. Even if there is only one section that made you cry or shed a tear, it still might be called one. My tearjerker movie is The Titanic. I will forever cry to that movie, but that is just me.
