A locally owned Mexican grocery store would be your best choice. They cater to the Mexican community as an alternative to a regular grocery store. You may also want to check with local gourmet food stores. They often carry a wide variety of products for various cultures. They tend to have items that other stores do not.

If you have a restaurant supply store nearby, you will likely find a tamale maker there. Otherwise, you can try a housewares store or, even easier, order one online.

Tamale makers are considered small appliances. If you have a Mexican community in your area, the local department stores will carry them to fill their needs. You can also find a tamale maker at a Mexican grocery store. Local gourmet food shops (usually at the mall) carry them and can offer ratings/reviews about models. They special order too, if needed.

When looking for talale maker I would look at homes stores. Stores that sell home applainces would be the best bet. I think of stores like Target and Walmart and Bed Bath and beyond. Even department stores like sears or kohls. When shopping for a Tamale maker I would go to a store that I know I have seen applainces.

You can try local specialty cookware stores or mainstream gourmet stores such as Williams-Sonoma. If you're lucky, you also may be able to find tamale makers at thrift stores in your area. Try stores such as Macy's, Dillard's, Target or even Wal-Mart. Finally, try a store in your city that specializes in ethnic cookware.
