The most important thing about soil when it comes to a weeping mulberry is that it should be well-draining. An older weeping mulberry tree is drought-tolerant, but in the first few years you should keep it well watered. As long as you do that, sandy soil should be okay.

Mulberries tolerate a wide range of soils, but appreciate getting watered deeply, which encourages deeper roots, so they don't get blown over. If you see other mulberry trees in your area doing well, that is a good indication that they can be grown.

Weeping mulberry likes a wide range of soils. If your soil is sandy, add some organic material when you plant it, about 1/3 compost and 2/3 backfill will add water-holding capacity. Mulberries also like to be mulched, so add 3-4 inches of bark or wood chips over the root zone when you plant.
