Any workout that gets your heart rate going counts as a cardiovascular workout. While it is true that running is one of your best options, it is not the only one. Try swimming, bicycling, kickboxing, aerobics, stair stepping, skiing, inline skating or even brisk walking!

Some cardiovascular workouts that don't involve running are aerobics where you stand in place, punching bag work, swimming, and riding a bicycle. All of these workouts can provide the same cardiovascular benefits that running can, without the impact on your legs and feet. Swimming in particular is an effective cardiovascular workout that works the entire body.

You should try using an eliptical trainer. It is very low impact and provides a great cadiovascular workout. Another good option is walking. You can do it anywhere and at any time. Just make sure that whatever you choose, you get a good pair of shoes to save yourself from any harm to your joints.

There are many different cardiovascular exercises available. Common choices include: cycling, swimming, walking, dancing, and rowing. Really, however, any physical activity that gets your heart rate up and keeps it up will count, and the possibilities are almost endless.
