Every dog is different, and behavior can depend on many factors. Some dogs, as they develop aches and pains can become grumpier or less tolerant of attention. Some, who have started to lose some alertness may become mellower and less fearful because they're no longer being excited by things like noises.

Older dogs tend to sleep more. They might have hip trouble, or arthritis, that makes movement painful and much harder for them, and you might need to help them up onto their favorite bed or sleeping spot and otherthings. They may have more trouble with incontinence. They might have skin issues.

As dogs age they become less active. Your older dog will enjoy resting more during the day, especially on a soft bed. Make sure they do get some exercise though.
