Westies are very good with children, but may try to become the "pack leader" and be prone to Small dog syndrome- taking over, don't let him! They're very smart and playful and need lots of exercise. They are even tempered and very affectionate, prone to digging tho, watch your carpet!

As long as there is a lot of Adult Supervision around the dog it could be a good fit for kids. Westies are not recommended for children under the age of ten. They are also not recommended in homes where a lot of kids come over to play because they often times unintentionally nip.

Westy's are very good with small children. Westy's can be snappy when barking, but are usually only tempermental around other dogs. Keeping one in the house should not be a problem.

Westy dogs are good tempered but require a lot of walking. They are near the middle of the pack for intelligence. As long as you set clear rules with the children the dog will perform well.
