What is the structure and organization in "The Matrix"?

They do not say what the organization is called besides the general term "the machines" but it is a collective mind of many computer artificial intelligence. They have enslaved humans in a computer program by hijacking the human senses so we feel, touch, see, hear, and smell whatever they want them to.
