In the African traditional religion, women are highly regarded. They are seen as "a flower in a garden" and the husband is her fence (protection).

As far as I know, women had and still have an important role in religious practices. Mythologically speaking a woman is the origin of the world or human kind. In a more practical way they are allowed to be priestesses just as much as men are, they can be healers and the healing process has allways been connected with religion.

As creators of life and nurturers of children, women have important role. However, women are also thought to be the "ruin of men" and thus experience religious prejudice, too.
