It depends. Per mrs 577. 060, it is a misdemeanor except in cases where someone was injured and/or property damage exceeds $1000 and/or the offender has been found guilty or pled guilty to of a violation of this law previously. The rule is the same whether the accident is on the street, highway or private parking area.

It depends. The punishment for leaving the scene of a minor fender bender is much different than leaving the scene of a major accident that involved serious injuries.

In Missouri, a first leaving the scene offense that involves no personal injury and property damage of less than $1,000 may result in a fine of $1,000 and up to a year in jail. Any other leaving the scene offense may result in a fine of $4,000 and imprisonment of four years.

Did you leave the scene of an accident where no one was hurt and property damage is minor? Or did they take someone away in an ambulance? These are important factors. In a minor fender bender, it's a misdemeanor to leave the scene. Leaving the scene of a serious injury and major property damage accident is a felony.
