What is the profit per gallon to oil companies?

It appears that they have a 2. 5% gross profit margin but over the past 25 years have paid 2. 2 trillion dollars in taxes. I don't have an exact breakdown, but from the time it leaves their hands to your tank a lot of people have their hands in the pie, most notably the distribution company and the US government.

This cannot be given a specific number as it varies from company to company and even hour to hour. Most try to keep a percentage based on barrel price not gallon. Gas stations are the ones who make profit per gallon and that is usually very small.
