The methadone drug test detects the presence of opiates. It can be done via a urine test, which detects the drug for 2 to 5 days after ingestion. A hair drug test can detect the presence of opiates for up to three months after ingestion of the drug.

Methhadone doesn't show up on opiate screens, which are the most common drug screens. The test for methadone is specific and part of the second-tier "extended" test by some employers.
