What is the least addictive anxiety medication?

I've heard some anxiety medications can be really addictive.

Buspar is not addictive like the benzodiazepines types can be. Anyone who has an addictive personality can have problems if they take valium, xanax or ativan especially if it is long term. Talk to your pharmacist who is trained and has lots of references at his/her fingertips for advice.

Hey ya'll should check into hydroxyzine. One of the brand names is Atarax and the other I believe is Vistaril. It is really cheap and even though I was on it for several years I never had any problems quitting and no withdrawal symptoms at all not even jitters.

I've personally had to take several different types of anxiety medications over the years and never became addicted. Becoming dependent on the medication is a whole different ball of wax. The biggest concern is to not quit abruptly since if you do it could cause central nervous system seizures.

Wouldn't dependency still be almost the same thing as addiction? Addiction is when you become dependent on something like alchohol or cigarettes. Seems to me that they are one and the same thing.  add a comment

No, not necessarily. The definition of addiction is a physical or psychological dependence. Yes, They use the word dependence to define addiction. In medical terms, "addiction" is both a physical and psychological need for a mind altering substance. "Dependence" is used for both, but not at the same time.  add a comment
