A cornerback plays defense on the football team. His job is to prevent pass receivers from catching a pass from the quarterback. Cornerbacks have to be very fast and agile to be able to keep up with the receivers.

Additionally, some plays call for the cornerback to blitz the quarterback. This is risky since it leaves fewer players in coverage. In zone defenses, corners cover a part of the field. In man-to-man, corners cover a specific receiver.
