What is the history of the Texas flag?

Is anything a carry-over from being a part of Mexico?

The flag was introduced in 1839 and is nicknamed the "lone star flag". The Lone Star is symbolic of the new independance from Mexico of Texas. There were many other flags before this one to be associated with Texas.

As I recall, the Lone Star flag is sort of a parting shot at Mexico. The single star on the flag represents Texas nationhood and independence from our neighbor to the south. Oddly enough, Texas didn't have an official state flag from 1879 to 1933 because they repealed most earlier laws through legislation and didn't craft a new flag statute.
