What is the difference between bipolar and bipolar two?

A diagnosis of bipolar disorder requires one or more manic or mixed episodes. Bipolor II diagnosis requires at least one depressive episode.

Bipolar 1 episodes usually last longer than Bipolar 2. They say that the manic episodes in BP1 are more severe and they tend to have hallucinations which would rule out BP2. Also, BP2 is considered to be more of depression with shorter mood swings.

In bipolar 2 the person never reaches a full manic state. The have the normal depressive state but the manic, or up, state is never fully reached.

Bipolar disorder in the original form is more severe than that of Bipolar Two. The main difference is Bipolar one patients experience psychotic episodes and Bipolar Two patients do not.
