FM stands for frequency modulation. This is the frequency, or horizontal length of the wave. AM stands for amplitude modulation. This is the amplitued, or the vertical size of the wave.

AM stands for amplitude modulation, FM stands for frequency modulation. AM is a much lower frequency so it takes a lot more power to push the signal.

AM and FM radio are actually different in the way they encode sound for transmission. AM stand for amplitude modulation, and encodes the original sound wave by increasing or decreasing the signal strength. FM stands for frequency modulation, and encodes sound by varying the frequency around a central frequency.

AM and FM are different types of radio modulation. AM stands for Amplitude Modulation, FM stands for Frequency Modulation. AM uses simple analog methods of demodulating the carrier wave, while FM is often aided in demodulation by digital means.

As I see it, the difference between AN and FM radio is that FM radio focuses solely on music while AM radio tends to focus on talk, news, and sports.
