What is the difference between a Gigabit and a Megabit?

Giga is a prefix meaning a billion. Mega means million. A gigabit would be a billion bits (single units of computer information)a megabit is only a million of them. A bit itself is a single 'digit' of binary code. It can read 1 or 0. Eight bits make a byte.

Megabit is smaller than gigabyte. 1024 megabit is equal to 1 gigabyte. 1 Kilobyte = 1024 bytes 1 Megabyte = 1024 Kilobyte 1 gigabyte = 1024 megabyte

1 giga bit equals 1 billion bits of data. 8 bits = 1 byte so 1 mega bit equals to 0. 000976562 giga bit or 1 gigabit equals to 1024 megabit
