A convex lens is curved outward, like the lens of your eye. A concave mirror is curved in, like a bowl. Easy way to remember the difference, take the word conCAVE and think cave in. A convex lens cannot be turned around and used as a concave lens.

Concave and Convex lenses differ only in the direction in which their bend changes light. A concave lens will disperse light coming in at one spot to a larger area. A convex lense will bend a large area of light into a smaller area. ( = convex. ) = concave.
