Innate refers to inherent traits, or those which are present from birth rather than learned through experience. Genetic refers to biologically inherited characteristics. As an example, blue eyes are a genetic trait, and an innate sense or right and wrong is not.

Innate means "natural" or "inborn." Genetic means "of or relating to genes." It is a similar word because genetic characteristics are innate, but the words are used differently. For example, you would not say "innate testing" or "innate materials" but you would say "genetic testing" or "genetic materials." Simply put, innate refers to a characteristic something's born with.
