Prices vary by geographic region and time of year, but this summer in New York, a gallon of propane costs $2.63. The cost for an energy equivalent amount of natural gas is roughly $1.30.

Propane compresses more easily than natural gas. Propane turns into a liquid form at -46 degrees Farenheit. An equal amount of propane generates 1. 5 times more BTU's than natural gas.

This question really depends on the state where you live. However, natural gas is currently much cheaper than propane. However, both of these items are commodities and prices change on a regular basis. Check your local newspaper business section to get up to date pricing on both of these commodities.

Propane is for mostly rural people and is stored in beautiful tanks in your yard. Natural gas comes from you but and usually stinks.
